About the English Foxhound's ageing

The English Foxhound is a large breed with an average lifespan of 10 to 13 years. Like other large-sized dogs, the English Foxhound ages most rapidly in its first two years — reaching the rough equivalent of a 25-year-old human by its second birthday — and then ages more steadily.

English Foxhounds typically reach senior status around 7 years old. From that point on, screening for joint, dental and weight-related conditions becomes especially valuable. Large-class breeds tend to be prone to hip, elbow and cardiac issues; many owners begin joint supplementation and twice-yearly vet visits at this stage.

If your English Foxhound is approaching the high end of its expected lifespan (13+ years), you're already doing something right. Continue to monitor mobility, appetite, weight and behaviour — and adjust food, exercise and vet check-up frequency accordingly.
