About DogYears

DogYears exists because the "1 dog year = 7 human years" rule is too sloppy to be useful. Size class is the single biggest factor in how a dog ages, and we wanted a calculator that respected that, breed by breed.

We've catalogued the size class, average lifespan and senior-age threshold for ~200 popular breeds and mix types. Plug in your dog's age, pick the breed, get a sensible estimate.

How accurate is it?

Pretty accurate, but not precise. Real ageing varies with weight, diet, genetics, neuter status and how active the dog is. Treat our chart as a clear ballpark rather than a clinical figure. Your vet has the final word.
